Saturday was our group’s personal deadline for all the animation, and we’ve all been working really hard to meet it. According to my knowledge, the only things left to do is add the sound, music, and master it to a tape.
During this project I’ve tried to help out a lot. Since 2D animation isn’t really my forte (well I suck at 3D too), there wasn’t a lot I could help with. Barry sent me clips of rough animation that needed to be worked on and I fixed them up the best I could. Work really sped up when I upgraded from my crummy Graphire tablet. My cleanup work took longer, but it looked real smooth in the film. However if there was one thing I could change about Flash, it would be the way it keeps making small paintbrush lines have lots of gaps in them. That was really frustrating.
Overall, I’ve learnt a lot about how to do 2D animation, but I don’t think it’s something that I’ll pursue as a career, simply because of all the hundreds of drawings that need to be done. I do enjoy drawing, just not drawing the same thing a million times.

There’s only about 2 weeks left of this project, and right now Barry is handing me rough animation to clean up (both the drawings and the colour). We’ve been exchanging files through e-mail.
The flow of work is going pretty well for me. I’m working right on schedule.

Sorry this doesn’t have much to do with my project, but I’m typing this entry from Windows Live Writer as a test. If it works, I can update more frequently and easily.

It’s a big job, but I’m slowly getting through it.
Only now have I actually discovered what kind of information is required in this online journal, so here goes.
For most of the cleanup process I’ve been pretty much working in Flash and tracing over the rough line work on a new layer, and then colouring on a separate layer from that using the paintbrush. It’s fairly slow, especially with my old tablet.
Recently Barry showed me a faster way to do cleanup that involved selecting the rough line work (which was drawn with the paintbrush tool), and then going to Modify > Shape > Optimize, which cleans the line work a little, but the extra lines need to be removed with the eraser. The result is a rougher linework which is less clean but still suitable for the intended style of the film.

I’ve been working hard, trying to balance this film work with other assessment.
So far I’m doing cleanup and have completed all the animation I’ve been given so far. I can’t actually post any of it because the animation isn’t mine. It’s Tyler’s.

And I don’t want to claim his work as my own. Great. Now we only have a few weeks left to complete this whole film and we haven’t even finished animation. This I guess is crunch time for us.

Sorry I haven’t come back here and updated in a while. I have roughed out (really rough) some poster designs for the film Snarg, but just a couple of days ago I caught the flu.
Yesterday I didn’t feel like doing anything but sleeping. When I feel better I’ll put up my poster sketches here.
